SURRENDER OF HONG KONG
THE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR THE COLONIES enquired whether any firm arrangements had yet been made för accepting the surrender of Hong Kong.
THE CHIEF OF THE IMPERIAL GENERAL STAFF said that at their meeting that morning the Chiefs of Staff had directed that instructions should be sent to Admiral Harcourt to sign surrender terms on the 16th September. The despatch of these instructions was awaiting the concurrence of the Foreign Office.
SIR ALEXANDER CADOGAN confirmed that these instructions would meet the Foreign Office wishes.
THE COMMITTEE:-
Approved the despatch of the telegram
proposed by the Chiefs of Staff.
